WACKY COUPLES

three entries for the SPACKEN IN LOVE / WACKY COUPLES competition, an openly judged, online drawing competition in germany. one of the judges picked the SIAMESE TWINS picture as his ‘joker’/favourite and thus brought it into the finals.

somehow, videos were released from the live jury judging. never seen anything more pathetic pretentious and sinister lol. very good lesson for realising how futile all these competitions are really.

THE SANDBOX

EDIT  *** had sent this out to all media entities in austria – television, magazines, newspaper. apart from them ‘disappearing’ or being stolen, not a single person or entity got back to me. tv station ‘atv’ soon after launched a corny and weak concept where the usual footage from parliament was voiced over ‘satirically’ by children’s voices. how pathetic is the media scene in this mickey mouse country lol.

this one is a political strip series i develped during a year i stayed back in vienna (about 2004). it’s kind of a mixture between BERTHOLD BRECHT and SPITTING IMAGE, very dark but also quite funny. all austrian politicians are reduced to small children playing in a theatrical sandbox setup. the citizens are shown as toddlers in nappies. the european politicians are adults the kids want to impress.

POLITICAL CARTOONS

***EDIT – i’d sent the first series to steve bell from uk’s ‘guardian’ and he got back right away, encouraging me to continue doing this as they left him “baffled”.  however, all that happened was a uk-wide competition for political cartoons – i suppose scouring whether there were any more people around seeing through the ‘game’. and that was that.
